So about 2 hours ago I was sitting next to my laptop thinking about what game I would like to play and Diablo 3 just kept popping into my head. However I realized it isn't out yet and that my laptop can no way in hell handle the game. I did remember hearing about Torchlight however. My laptop is about 4 years old and can't handle much in the area of gaming so when it comes to PC gaming I am very limited. I don't have the extra $20 right now and I just missed the $5 sale on Steam so I decided to try out the demo for Torchlight. About 10 minutes after I started the download it finished up and started to install. I was concerned due to problems in the past with my computer and attempting to play Spore. I was however pleasantly surprised when the game loaded up without any lag. I changed some of the settings down to medium to accommodate my old computer. Moments later I created my character, named my cat, and chose my role. The game is broken down into 3 classes, they are your standard mage-like, warrior-like, and thief-like. I started my mage-like character and on I went.
The demo of the game is limited to 2 hours of play time so I didn't take much of the story in as I started playing. However right away the game instantly screams Diablo and WOW. The art direction looks similar to WOW and the play style is definitely Diablo. I had very little lag when I was playing which as I said before was odd due to my older computer. I didn't even have to learn the controls due to time with both WOW and Diablo in my younger-er years. All the features are there, identify items, click to attack...and for just about everything else, and the many portals to and from towns and dungeons. The quests seem to be varied as well splitting between taking out certain monsters or helping certain NPCs. I assume there are even more things to do but as I only got to play for 2 hours it is still fairly impressive to have that much to do that quickly.
Overall I had a blast playing the demo for the game and hopefully soon I will have the funds to get the full game and enjoy dungeon crawling till Diablo 3 comes out. It isn't Diablo 3 but it does a very good job as a great dungeon crawler and giving us a great game to tide us over and maybe depending on how well it does maybe even snag a few players away from Diablo 3. If you have the time head on over to the homepage and snag the demo to see what you think. Thanks for reading.
Demo Decision - Give it a go + $20 not that bad for the amount of game play you get

...and open new week
So it's a new week and I'm not too sure what to talk about. The weekend kind of came and went with no new happenings. Invisible Walls, the gametrailers.com podcast, had its 100th episode. I encourage you to check that out if you have the time. So I'm taking a break on Pokemon and Final Fantasy for the moment. I kind of burned myself out on level grinding for the moment. I checked out a couple PSP downloads however that turned out to be rather inviting outside of RPGs.
Undead Dracula's Awakening, the PSPmini, and R-Types, the PSOne classic. Both of them had my attention for quite some time. R-Types is your old school vertical shooter compiling R-Type 1 and 2 together into one game. The graphics look great and the game plays well. I would love to go more into this game but to be honest I have never made it very far because of the extreme difficulty of these old school shooters. I do however recommend it to anyone who enjoys the retro game type. The game runs in at $5.99 and is more than worth the price.
Undead is similar to Zombie Apocalypse on the PS3. It is a top-down shooter with similar mechanics. It however has 4 games modes including survival, super survival, wave, and rush. The wave round is your standard couple enemies come at you, you kill them, end round, buy ammo, rinse and repeat. The challenge comes however about 10 rounds in when you can barely see the ground with the amount of enemies on screen. The other game types are similar with some differed mechanics. There are 3 maps to play on and each has it's own unique enemies to throw at you. For $4.99 it has more than enough game play to keep you playing.
So to anyone with a PSP, I know there are a couple more of you out there, these games are a nice break from a big commitment such as Final Fantasy or Pokemon. With the weather getting nice as well it can be nice to take some small games with you when you are out and about enjoying the fresh air. Well that's all for now. Thanks again for reading.

Oh Atlus my dear dear friend...
I am a huge fan of all things Atlus. I have a Shin Megami Tensei collection including Persona 3 and 4, Persona 1 and PSP, Nocturne and many others. I have tried to stay up to date with all the games they release and at times have owned a good chunk of them. Why did I go off on this tangent you may ask...I'll tell you. It's because 3D Dot Game Heroes comes out in about a month and a half. If you have not seen this I beg of you go to Atlus' website or any other video game trailer sites and have yourself a look. It looks to play like a more in depth version of Zelda with an appearance unlike anything I have seen. Imagine all those pixelated masterpieces you grew up with. Now imagine them in high def where you can see all the individual pixels in magnificent(insert TV capabilities). I have seen nothing on this game that would make me have any other opinions than...I WANT THIS NOW. May 11th cannot come quick enough. If you haven't played any Atlus games I would urge you to try. They do tend to be on the steep side of difficult but that just means when you accomplish something you feel great about it.

who doesn't love some good ink
So it's been a long night and I got quite a bit done, and by quite a bit I mean that ever since I saw the trailer for the new Kick-Ass movie I have gotten back into a couple of comics I haven't been able to keep up with. I recently pulled out my number 1 of Kick-Ass and then subsequently went and read the other 7 books. As soon as that was over I sat down and re-read the first 2 graphic novels of The Boys and then caught myself up with that comic as well. It's late so I'm not going to go in depth on any of these because that could take some time but I would like to say that it has been awhile since I lost myself in any other story than one in a video game and it's just really nice to be able to sit down and enjoy an engrossing story on paper again.
Goodnight thanks to anyone who is reading.

gotta catch em all.........again
So everyone that knows me knows I am a huge nerd and nothing points that out better than the fact that I'm 24 and I own the new Pokemon Soul Silver. To be completely honest though, now that I've put near 40 hours of time into the game I don't much care how bad it looks, this game is great. Now to be honest it has not changed a whole lot from Platinum or the other 4th generation games. The things however that stick out the most to me is I like this one and when I owned Pearl I never played it. Now I don't know if this is due to the fact that I started my Pokemon journey on Red and Blue on the old blunt force object Game Boy. I also then continued on to play Gold when Gold and Silver came out. Regardless of why this is I will just stick to what I know.
The games story has barely changed from any of the past games. You still get a pokemon early on in the game through your basic element choices - fire, water, leaf. Yes...leaf. From here on out the game pushes you through some minor trainer areas then unleashes you into the world. This time around you have 2 main area maps to explore, the Johto and Kanto regions. That means there are 16 badges to collect unlike the other games only contained 8. I have now completed my 16 badge playthrough and have determined that the game has had a big overhaul since its Game Boy Color days. The gym leader animations have all been updated and some of their appearances have been altered as well. Speaking of appearances, the pokemon have all had animations added to them as well. They still overall look about the same but it holds some nostalgia factor for me.
The game-play has had some new features added including double battles involving you using your top 2 pokemon in your list versus 2 trainers using 1 each. It is a neat adjustment and adds some neat new gameplay features. The catch-em-all part of pokemon is what brings a lot of people back everytime and it does not disappoint with nearly 500 different pokemon to collect and that doesn't include the shiny pokemon rare and unique throughout all games. The main difference for me this time around but I realize that it was in Pearl and the rest of the other 4th generations is the Wi-Fi trade which makes it much easier to deposit and ask for pokemon from people around the world. This feature alone breathes new life into Soul Silver and Heart Gold.
Overall I give it 9.2 out of 10. It hasn't changed that much throughout the years but it was never broken to begin with. It has solid turn-based RPG battles, an addictive collect and catalog of nearly 500 creatures some unique to each of the games, fun and addictive mini-game in the Pokeathlon, and to top it off a little Pokewalker device to add little away from the handheld games. All in all a great addition to the Pokemon franchise and a great re-imagining of the classic Silver and Gold game. If you haven't played in years or you are a new fan I would recommend these games.
Overall - 9.2 out of 10
